A VALUES DRIVEN LIFE
One of the secrets to a great life is to live it with full integrity, honouring our deepest, core values in the choices we make from moment to moment.
Take a moment and consider some times when you have been most stressed, most angry, ashamed or distressed. Consider a choice that you made where you did not feel good afterwards. Look at an environment that did not feel good. What was happening there? Were there values being violated? Was there a conflict between values? What was out of balance?
Now take a moment and consider when you have been the happiest, the most fulfilled in your life. Consider some choices that were easy and felt good or right. What was happening? How did you feel? What were the values that you were honouring in that moment?
It is in the honouring of our deepest values that we find fulfillment, yet many of us have never sat down to discover this fundamental essence that drives our happiness and fulfillment. Many more of us don't consciously consider these values in the choices we make from day to day.
Personal Story:
Some years ago during the "dot-com days", I was working for computer software firm. After only after a month there, I realized that something felt very wrong for me. I felt totally mis-aligned with the leadership and culture of this organization. It also felt like our company was not in integrity with our customers. I found that many of my colleagues within the company felt the same way. It was not a fulfilling place. We were all collecting a pay-check, and that was fulfilling a real need for all of us(and perhaps one of our values), but it was not enough.
It was during that time that I read the book "Liberating the Corporate Soul" by Richard Barrett. In taking his courses, I discovered the importance of living a values driven life and finding alignment with my values - in the organizations I was apart of, in the relationships I cultured, and in the choices I make. This was a turning point for me. Soon afterwards I left this "dot-com" company because I knew it could never fulfill me. My life was too precious to allow my life energy to be depleted there.

Ways of Wisdom
- Discover your core values! Take the time to know who you really are in your very essence. What do you value most? What fulfills you? What you are made of?
- Prioritize them. We all have many values operating within us. Which are the most important at this time in your life? Why?
- Evaluate and Balance. How you are doing in honouring your top 5-10 values. Are you ignoring some at the expense of others? Notice where you might be out of balance. When and how will you come back into balance with them. From time to time we need to focus on particular values in our life, but it is unsustainable if we do this for too long.
- Integrate your behaviors and actions with your values. Live them from day to day into your behaviors and beliefs. Be authentic and walk your talk!
- Evolve. The appropriate values focus may shift from one stage of life to another. Be open to them growing as you grow, deepening as you deepen, and resonating at a new vibration of consciousness. Be open to the flow of your life and what it has to teach you.
